Little Girl

Bitter wind sliced through her jacket and froze her bare feet. The little girl slumped in an alleyway, alone. No family to protect her, only her grandmother’s lighter to display images of warmth and love through the night. In the morning, she was found frozen, joy upon her face.

  1. The Little Match Girl is one of my favorite HC Andersen stories (though technically, it’s not really a fairy tale). Nice job bringing it into the present day by switching out the matches for a lighter.
